The Upshur County Court Calendar
The county publishes no standalone daily or weekly calendar page. A hearing usually surfaces inside the case detail instead. Circuit and Family cases live in WVPASS, the West Virginia Public Access Search System. Magistrate cases go through a separate tool called MCRSearch. That one is the Magistrate Case Record Search. A Buckhannon ordinance matter stays with the municipal court and the city records channel.
The split matters more than people expect. WVPASS cannot search Magistrate Court. MCRSearch cannot reach Circuit or Family Court cases. Neither tool serves as one calendar for every hearing at the Upshur County Courthouse. Felony charges and general-jurisdiction civil settings sit in Circuit Court. Divorce, custody, and support settings belong to Family Court. Misdemeanor, traffic, limited civil, and preliminary felony matters land in Magistrate Court.
Upshur County Court Event Schedule
On the official MCRSearch case-detail template, look for the block labeled “CASE EVENT SCHEDULE.” That section can show a court hearing. It gathers date and time, courtroom, and location in one place. It beats a general payment page for an Upshur County Magistrate setting. It also beats an old mailed notice. The reason is simple: it ties the date to one specific case.
| Event | The type of scheduled court hearing or case event. |
|---|---|
| Date and time | The displayed setting, commonly formatted with a date, time, and AM or PM. |
| Courtroom | The room assignment shown for the event, when populated. |
| Location | The county or city location connected with the setting. |
| Case identity | The case number and description used to confirm the correct record. |
The same template may display charges, docket entries, bonds, judgments, and dispositions. Helpful context, yes. But none of it replaces the current event schedule. A disposition states an outcome. A docket entry records an action taken in the case. Neither one proves a future hearing is still on the calendar.
How to Find Your Court Date
Start with the route for the court that actually holds your Upshur County case. Keep the case number and party name close. If the setting affects whether you must appear, confirm it with the responsible office rather than trusting an old printout.
- For Circuit or Family Court, open WVPASS, select Upshur County, locate the case by name or case number, and review its events or settings.
- For Magistrate Court, accept the MCRSearch disclaimer, search by first and last name or case number, and open the matching event schedule.
- If the online date is missing, call the Circuit Clerk at 304-472-2370 or Magistrate Clerk at 304-472-2053.
- For a court-specific check, call the Circuit judge’s office at 304-472-5556, magistrate offices at 304-472-2259 or 304-472-2462, or Family judge’s office at 304-269-0432.
- Visit the Circuit Clerk public-access point or Magistrate Clerk public terminal at 38 West Main Street when remote access fails.
- For Buckhannon Municipal Court, call City Hall at 304-472-1651 because no separate public calendar was located.
Upshur County posts no daily printed calendar online. A copy may exist at the counter for court operations. Nothing promises one, though. Ask whether a current posted list is available on the day you visit.
The two online routes carry different histories and limits. MCRSearch launched statewide on January 25, 2024. No registration is required. It is reachable from mobile devices, public libraries, and terminals in each Magistrate Clerk office. WVPASS opened statewide public Circuit Court searching on March 10, 2025. It reaches publicly available Circuit documents dating to 1999. Sealed filings and juvenile cases stay outside public access. Those dates mark online availability. They are not the first year a court kept the underlying case or setting.
No Standalone Upshur Court Calendar
A state court website does not turn every county schedule into one searchable calendar. The West Virginia Judiciary access gateway routes visitors to two case systems, not to an Upshur County daily-docket page. WVPASS is the statewide Circuit Court layer. MCRSearch handles statewide Magistrate case information.
Buckhannon Municipal Court forms a third path. City meeting schedules are not court calendars. A council meeting list will not establish a municipal hearing date. Federal matters follow the same separation. A federal case involving Upshur County belongs in PACER or CM/ECF, generally under the Northern District’s Elkins assignment, never on a state court calendar.
Reading a Court Setting
A setting is simply a scheduled event in the life of a case. Trials are only one kind. Read the event label, court, time, and location together before drawing conclusions. An Upshur County case can hold more than one hearing, and an earlier entry may still show even after a later reset.
| Date | The assigned calendar day. Compare it with later entries. |
|---|---|
| Time | The start time shown by the court. Verify AM or PM. |
| Courtroom | The assigned room, if public detail provides one. |
| Judge or office | The judicial officer or office responsible for the setting. |
| Setting type | The event purpose, such as hearing, conference, arraignment, or trial when stated. |
If a field is blank, never fill it from another case or a past notice. Call the office that controls the setting. The Upshur County case search can help you locate the right record first.
Upshur County Court Calendar Terms
West Virginia’s portals use several labels for calendar information. Each label means something narrower than the broad phrase “court date.”
- Case event schedule
- The MCRSearch block listing a Magistrate hearing and its date, time, courtroom, and location.
- Court hearing
- A general event label. The docket context may identify its purpose.
- Docket entry
- A dated record of an action or filing. It may note a reset but is not always a future event.
- Disposition
- The recorded outcome of a charge or issue, not a calendar listing.
- Continuance
- A court-approved move of a proceeding to a later time.
The most recent entry often controls, yet portal data can lag or omit restricted detail. For an appearance requirement, the court’s notice and a current confirmation remain the safest sources.
Resets, Continuances, and Cancellations
A reset shifts a setting. A continuance is a postponement the court authorizes. A cancellation is different: it removes a scheduled event but does not end the case. In the Upshur County docket, these changes appear as an order, a new case event, or a short code with a description. Read entries in chronological order. Look for the replacement date before assuming anything.
A continuance request alone changes nothing. The court must act. Until a signed order, a revised event, or direct confirmation from the office says otherwise, the existing notice may still govern. That matters when WVPASS stalls or when MCRSearch shows an old event beside a new one.
Circuit and Family settings involve two offices. The Circuit Clerk keeps the register, while the judge's office controls the schedule. Magistrate matters follow the same split. The Magistrate Clerk and the assigned magistrate office are the right chain for those. Whenever you call, give staff the case number, party name, court, and date shown.
Upshur Court Calendar Portal Failures
WVPASS is a dynamic application, not a static page. A plain browser request can stall. It may hang at a loading message or throw an error before any runtime fields appear. MCRSearch opens with a disclaimer gate and a continuation control. Neither behavior says anything about the Upshur County case. The portal is simply failing.
Start with a fresh browser session. Confirm that you picked the right portal for the case. If the trouble persists, write down the error and switch channels. Circuit and Family users can call or visit the Circuit Clerk. Magistrate users have two options. Call the Magistrate Clerk, or use the public terminal. A narrow mailed request naming the case and the setting also works. But official sources promise no response time for an ordinary calendar inquiry.
Office routing matters inside Upshur County. The Circuit Clerk sits at 38 West Main Street. It keeps the Circuit and Family registers. Circuit Judge Jacob E. Reger's office is at the Upshur County Courthouse, 40 West Main Street. The Seventeenth Family Court Circuit is shared with Lewis County. A family setting question may go to Judge Theresa Cogar Turner's office in Weston. Upshur also shares the Eighteenth Judicial Circuit with Lewis County. So a Lewis County location in an official instruction deserves a check against the case. It is not proof that the Upshur setting vanished.
What To Do If You Miss a Setting
Act promptly. Pull up the case detail and look for a new event, docket entry, order, warrant, or disposition, then call the office responsible for the Upshur County setting. Have the case number ready. Say the date you missed, ask what the docket now shows, and ask what process the court requires from you next.
Magistrate matters start with 304-472-2053. Circuit or Family matters begin at 304-472-2370, following the clerk's routing from there. Buckhannon Municipal Court uses 304-472-1651. If counsel represents a party, call counsel as well, since portal text is useful public information but never replaces a current court instruction.
